Winchester Science Centre is back with a bang!
We work with so many attractions that we often get invited to launches and events, allowing us to celebrate their hard work, new ideas and amazing new additions.
This month, we were invited to the launch and re-opening of Winchester Science Centre - something we have all been desperate to see happen following their very long closure due to Covid.
As part of Hampshire's Top Attractions, WSC has been one of the last attractions to open, but goodness, they have done it with a bang with a brand new visitor experience and an amazing new interactive exhibition.
Our Business Development Manager Claire took her son Hamish along to experience it all. Here's her account of the evening and the fun they had:
"Last night my son Hamish and I were fortunate enough to be invited to the VIP preview event at the Winchester Science Centre. It was an invitation that certainly made my son's ears prick up which was apt considering the new exhibition theme.
The immersive sound and hearing exhibition allows you to embark on an exciting adventure of discovery through the art, physics and biology of sound, hearing and vibration. It's inspirational and fun interactive exhibits are waiting to literally bring your senses to life.
The exhibition has lots to shout about including a 10m long playable guitar (my sons favourite exhibit) that enables you to climb inside and to feel the 'good' vibrations as your friends and family pluck the strings. Alternatively, if your little ones want to explore space, they can experience the wonder of acoustics inside the sonic rocket or even climb inside a giant ear to explore its inner workings.
We laughed together by making sounds in the huge echo tubes - discovering more about decibels, rhythm and frequency and we had a go at British Sign Language. We joined the rescue crew to save Humphrey the Humpback Whale!
Our journey started with a BANG by watching the explosive live science demos as the team brought the action to the exhibition floor! There was fire, ice, explosions and much more. My little one was wide-eyed in amazement.
If you fancy some fresh air then you can take a walk on the WILD side with the brand new inside/outside nature-based experimentation zone. It encourages children, families and friends to get creative and have a go at challenges themed around the stunning location of the South Downs National Park. You can let nature inspire you as you get involved with activities designed around birds, bugs and bees as well as plants and the ecology of the area.
The centre also knows that no two visitors are the same. They have achieved a long-held desire to improve the noisy and sometimes overwhelming environment created by their unique pyramid-shaped building by installing state-of-the-art acoustic solutions. Each set of acoustic solutions has been designed to solve sound problems, improve ambient noise and provide an aesthetically pleasing environment for visitors. So if like us you sometimes feel a little discombobulated you can take a break in the Recombobulation Room – a quiet place designed for people who need time away from the hustle and bustle of the Centre and a sanctuary for those with sensory sensitivities.
If you are like me and the sound you hear often is your tummy rumbling, then give your taste buds a little stimulation and relax with a hot drink or mouth-wateringly tasty treat from the refreshed café and take the chance to sit and drink in the fantastical displays that surround you.

Plus, the adventure doesn't have to stop there as you can continue your STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) journey at home with a souvenir from the remodelled shop.
We are delighted to see Winchester Science Centre opening again and looking forward to supporting via our management of Hampshire's Top Attractions.
