Reason 7 - The passionate people
Reason 7 - The passionate people
As English Tourism Week 2016 comes to an end, we thought we would end our series of blogs on the reasons why we love working in tourism, with one about the industry as a whole and the groups of people and businesses we work with.We have covered collaboration, local distinctiveness, heritage, culture and food tourism, and what makes all of the above possible is having people passionate about them.It starts with the end user - the visitors that we target with the aim to enthuse, motivate and ultimately make happy through enjoyable and memorable experiences. If visitors and customers are happy – we are happy and we know that we have successfully done our job. It could be hundreds of people attending a local event, a restaurant full of content customers, a family visiting Hampshire for the first time and creating memories or an oversees visitor arriving into Southampton’s cruise terminals and picking up one of our publications to help them discover the city. Our overall aim is to provide creative marketing solutions to reach the visitor audience. Then to our clients, peers, colleagues and industry influencers - they all have passion and working alongside passionate people inspires us to be creative. There is nothing like being in a room of 40 marketing professionals, marketing managers from attractions or general managers from hotels to feel inspired. The tourism industry is creative, innovative and dynamic and once you have a group of professionals brainstorming campaigns, developing strategies or simply trying to work out what the next theme should be - you can be assured that it will be fun, creative and often a little 'out there', but that is what makes our role enjoyable - we get to deliver the ideas of many and come up with new solutions to help grow their business.According to VisitBritain, since 2010 tourism has been the fastest growing sector in the UK in employment terms. Britain is forecast to have a tourism industry worth over £257 billion by 2025.The growing sector means that there will always be opportunities. Tourism can open you up to the world (literally!) but it isn't always about travel; it is about people. We are all tourists and one of our biggest challenges is to connect with the local residents in any given destination to help them to realise what is on their own doorstep and how to support local producers, businesses and people.Tourism enables us to interact with people from all different backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles which means we are forever learning. There is still a stigma today that many people think tourism is only something that comes into their lives when they are going on holiday but for the team at The Marketing Collective it is with us every day and we absolutely love what we do.. #tourismlove
